DKG/PSO is a powerful network of women educators I call my community. It is a
professional organization, but it is also a community of purpose, values, and action.
And, just like any thriving community, sustainability must be at the heart of how we grow, how we lead, and how we give back.
We need to sustain and strengthen our members, our chapters, our State, and our
Society by supporting the people and practices that impact the long-term growth of our communities and our calling as women educators.
As women educators, we have always been caretakers of the future. We practice
sustainability and growth when we teach, when we mentor, and when we innovate.
Committing to this biennium focus will ensure DKG/PSO and our communities of
passion will outlast us and continue to thrive and experience the benefits of
membership.
In July, the PSO Executive and Administrative Boards met online to discuss how to
strengthen and grow PA State. For example, an ad hoc committee was created to
review and update our governing documents, to keep our State effective, healthy, and aligned to the Society’s mission and vision.
In August, myself, Kristine Sheffer, 1 st Vice President; Greta Marie Taft, 2 nd Vice
President; and Suzi Blazosky, Treasurer, participated in State Organization Leadership
Training, or SOLT, at the International Conference in New Orleans. Each one of us left
with new skills and ideas, in addition to an Action Research Plan that we will be sharing with the chapter presidents during the October online meeting. Eileen Little, Northeast Regional Director and a past PSO president, guided us as we crafted our plan.
And don’t forget! – DKG will celebrate its 100th anniversary at the 2029 International
Conference in Austin, Texas, from July 25 -28. Learn more about the celebration at
dkg.org>Events>Centennial Celebration. If you haven’t done so yet, peruse the timeline
and watch the decades videos. And while you’re at it, check out the Centennial
Celebration resources at https://www.dkg.org/DKGSI/Events/Centennial-Celebration-
Resources.aspx, and be sure to write letters advocating for a USPS commemorative
stamp to be issued honoring and promoting the legacy of Dr. Blanton.
